Trump convention speech nets Fox News 10 million viewers

Fox News received the largest single-night convention audience Thursday night, thanks to former President Trump’s keynote speech at the Republican National Convention.

Fox earned the highest-rated convention coverage for a single network in cable news history among prime-time viewers with 9 million viewers, including 1.6 million in the key 25-54 age demo, the network said, citing early early figures from Nielsen Media Research.

During Trump’s speech, which lasted more than an hour, the network peaked at 10 million viewers, compared to 2 million who watched on CNN and 1.2 million who watched on MSNBC during the same time.

During his remarks, Trump spoke for the first time publicly about the assassination attempt against him over the weekend and went off script repeatedly, railing against the various criminal prosecutions he has faced and pledging to undo President Biden’s policies.

This week’s RNC came as Biden has faced growing calls to step out of the race following a shaky debate performance late last month and amid intensifying questions about his ability to defeat Trump this fall.

Final ratings figures from Nielsen were expected later Friday.
