Fox takes most views on Super Tuesday; CNN wins key 25-54 demo
FOX News and CNN both scored large audiences for their Super Tuesday coverage, with Fox News Channel delivering 4.172 million total viewers in primetime to lead all cable and broadcast outlets while CNN delivered the most viewers in the 25- to 54-year-old demographic with 1.093 million, according to early Nielsen Media Research.
It turned out to be a more dramatic broadcast evening than expected, with former Vice President Joe Biden wining more states than Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).
Biden also took surprise victories in Texas, Maine, Minnesota and Massachusetts. He also won decisively in Virginia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and Alabama. Sanders has been projected as the winner in California, Vermont, Colorado and Utah.
In total viewers , MSNBC was second with 3.818 million, followed by NBC with 2.94 million. CNN was fourth with 2.795 million, with ABC and CBS delivering 2.719 million and 2.642 million, respectively.
In the 25- to 54-year-old demographic, NBC was second with 983,000, followed by Fox News with 932,000 in the category. MSNBC was fourth with 910,000 viewers, followed by ABC’s 805,000 and CBS’s 640,000.
The next primary contests will be held next Tuesday in Idaho, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota and Washington.
