A “Today” show staffer has tested positive for the coronavirus, the network reported early Monday.
As a result, co-hosts Craig Melvin and Al Roker did not come into work on Monday out of an abundance of caution.
“Both are fine right now, they feel good, but caution is the order of the day,” “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie said.
NBC News president Noah Oppenheim said the latest staff member to register a positive test was experiencing “mild symptoms” and is being treated.
“We are fully supporting our colleague, who is experiencing mild symptoms and receiving medical care, and I know you join me in sending our very best for a quick recovery,” Oppenheim said.
Other staffers who were in close proximity at NBC to the affected staffer have been asked to self-quarantine.
“As you know, we have been preparing for this possibility and are taking all necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of our teams, which includes multiple deep cleanings of our offices, control room and Studio 1A.
“Additionally, we are identifying employees who had been in close proximity to the affected employee and — while not required to do so by the New York Health Department — are in the process of asking those who had close contact to self-isolate.”
“Today” announced last Thursday that it was suspending live audiences to “help to decrease the rate of transmission in our communities.”
Several programs, including Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” on CBS, John Oliver’s “Last Week Tonight” on HBO, “The Daily Show” with Trevor Noah on Comedy Central, Fox News Channel’s
“Greg Gutfeld Show” and ABC’s “The View” have said they will suspend tapings before live audiences until further notice.
