NBC News contributor sickened with COVID-19 released from hospital
NBC News science contributor Joseph Fair has been released from the hospital after contracting the coronavirus, one of his colleagues reported Sunday evening.
“NBC Nightly News” correspondent Kate Snow tweeted a picture of Fair late Sunday, writing that he was “out of the hospital and recovering at home.”
“Still on oxygen, but in his own cozy bed surrounded by his 2 dogs. I know so many of you will be relieved to hear,” she added.
So happy to report that virologist Joseph Fair, my colleague and @NBCNews contributor, is out of the hospital and recovering at home! Fair said last week that he had been hospitalized and was on oxygen after flying to New Orleans and developing symptoms of COVID-19 shortly afterwards.
“My flights were packed. I had a mask on, gloves on, wipes routine, but you know obviously you could still get it through your eyes,” he said. “I really couldn’t take a full breath, and that’s when I decided to call 911.”
A number of NBC employees have been affected by the virus in recent weeks; Jeff Shell, the new CEO of NBC News’s parent company, NBCUniversal, has contracted the disease and a longtime technician at the company’s New York headquarters, Larry Edgeworth, died from the disease.
