CNN signs NFL star Malcolm Jenkins as contributor on social justice

New Orleans Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins has signed with CNN as a contributor on social justice, the NFL star confirmed on Monday.

“I believe I can be a voice for other athlete activists and those who have dedicated their lives to changing legislation, policies and reforms for human equality: The inequalities of our criminal justice system, educational system and disparate wealth in our marginalized communities,” Jenkins said in a statement Monday.

“As we move forward from these moments, journalists must not make the grave mistake of allowing the world to go back to sleep,” the 32-year-old added. “The ground swell of energy that has been injected into all of us must continue when the protests stop, and that includes responsible reporting.”

Jenkins, a two-time Super Bowl champion, signed a four-year, $32 million deal with the Saints in March. He made headlines earlier this month after hitting out at teammate Drew Brees in a video after the star quarterback stated he “will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country.”

The video has since been deleted, while Brees has apologized several times for the remarks.

Jenkins won a Super Bowl with Brees during his rookie year in 2009 after being drafted out of Ohio State.
