Fox’s Hemmer presses McEnany on public absence of Birx, Fauci: ‘They seem to have disappeared’
Fox News Channel’s Bill Hemmer on Tuesday grilled White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany about rising coronavirus cases in Florida and asked about where Deborah Birx and Anthony Fauci have been in recent weeks.
“Will we see Drs. Birx and Fauci anytime soon?” Hemmer asked of the leading doctors on the White House coronavirus task force. “They seem to have disappeared.”
McEnany replied that they’re “hard at work” and that she’s “constantly gathering information from them.”
Earlier in the interview, Hemmer noted that there have been record numbers of new coronavirus cases in Florida while testing continues to expand in the Sunshine State and asked about the “level of concern” given that the Republican National Committee plans to hold its convention in Jacksonville this summer.
“We’re convinced it will be a safe convention,” McEnany responded. “We will ensure that all those who attend will be safe.”
The McEnany interview comes after Vice President Pence recently dismissed the notion of a “second wave” of COVID-19 in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal.
“In the past five days, deaths are down to fewer than 750 a day, a dramatic decline from 2,500 a day a few weeks ago—and a far cry from the 5,000 a day that some were predicting,” Pence wrote in the Journal.
