Second Bob Woodward book on Trump presidency set for September release

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Bob Woodward will release a second book about the Trump administration on Sept. 15, just seven weeks before the 2020 presidential election, according to the book’s publisher Simon & Schuster.

The new book will include interviews with President Trump.

“I was interviewed by a very, very good writer, reporter,” Trump shared with Fox News host Laura Ingraham in January. “I can say Bob Woodward. He said he’s doing something and this time I said, ‘maybe I’ll sit down.'”

Trump had declined to be interviewed for Woodward’s first book on his time in the White House, 2018’s “Fear: Trump in the White House.”

The title of the new release is not known.

Woodward has written 18 national bestsellers going back to the publishing of 1974’s “All the President’s Men” with Carl Bernstein on their coverage of the Watergate scandal while working for The Washington Post.

The book announcement comes as the president has experienced significant reelection headwinds following the coronavirus shutdown and protests erupting across the country over the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died after a police officer in Minneapolis knelt on his neck on Memorial Day.

The president’s approval rating has fallen in recent months and he trails presumptive Democratic presidential nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden in a number of polls ahead of November’s election.

A recent Gallup poll has Trump down 10 points since last month, dropping from a 49 percent approval rating to 39 percent.

Overall in the RealClearPolitics index of polls, Trump trails Biden by 8.5 points nationally as well as trails the former vice president in a number of key swing states.

Woodward also currently serves as the associate editor of The Washington Post. He will celebrate his 50th year at the paper next year.

After his first Trump book was released in Sept. 2018, Woodward remarked on Twitter about “the depth of dysfunction inside the White House” and its “inability to focus.”

Trump fired back in an interview with the Daily Caller in questioning Woodward’s credibility.

“It’s just another bad book. He’s had a lot of credibility problems,” the president said at the time.
