‘Simpsons’ highlights Trump controversies in Election Day clip
This year’s Halloween-themed episode of “The Simpsons” targets President Trump ahead of the election, highlighting a series of controversies from his first four years as president to argue against his reelection.
Variety, which published a clip from the “Treehouse of Horror XXXI” episode set on Election Day 2020, begins with Marge calling Homer to remind him to vote.
At the polling place, Homer notes that he already knows who we wants to vote for in other areas of the election except for the presidential contest.
His daughter Lisa then pops into his voting booth, saying she can’t believe that her dad is still undecided considering everything that happened over the past four years, with a flashback proceeding to remind him.
The show then runs a laundry-list of controversies from Trump’s first presidential run in 2016 and during his time in office, with 50 headlines such as “talked about grabbing *****” and “paid $750 in taxes.” Other listed headlines included “gutted the E.P.A.,” “refused to release tax returns” and “said to swallow bleach.”
Homer, who appears horrified by the memories, moves to cast his vote for president, adding, “Who are you going to make fun of now, late-night comics?”
“The Simpsons” has repeatedly poked at Trump during his first White House bid and his four years in office, including lampooning his feud with four progressive first-term congresswomen in a clip released last year.
The Halloween-themed episode is set to air on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 8 p.m. on Fox.
