Michael Cohen writing second book on Trump administration’s Justice Department

Michael Cohen, President Trump’s former personal attorney, said on Wednesday that he is working on a book documenting his experiences with the Justice Department just a month after the release of his first book, which painted a highly critical and inflammatory picture of the president. 

“There’s so much more to the story that hasn’t been told, tangentially, related to Donald Trump,” Cohen told Politico in an interview on Wednesday. “It is fair and accurate to state that President Trump has weaponized the Department of Justice against those he deems to be a threat thus making it into the Department of Injustice.”

Cohen told Politico that he has already spent a month working on his new book and that he is almost finished with an outline. While Skyhorse published the first book, Cohen told Politico that he is in discussions with several publishers on the new one, with a release planned for 2021.

He explained that the book will detail discussions of the warrant for the raid of his office and hotel room, as well as his views of the officials who prosecuted him, the banks and other witnesses who worked with the Justice Department, the judges who worked on his case, the Christopher Steele dossier and how government officials handled Cohen’s case overall.

Last month, Cohen’s book, “Disloyal: A Memoir: The True Story of the Former Personal Attorney to President Donald J. Trump,” debuted at No. 1 on the Amazon bestseller list on the day of its release. 

Throughout the book, Cohen described Trump as a narcissist and sociopath, telling NBC’s Lester Holt last month that Trump was a “cult leader.” 

“While I was in the cult, I was really refusing to acknowledge that the actions I was performing for my boss were morally wrong,” Cohen, who was also once known as Trump’s “fixer,” said at the time. 

In 2018, Cohen was sentenced to three years on charges of campaign finance violations and lying to Congress. Cohen was released from prison in July following concerns of COVID-19’s spread and is set to serve the remainder of his sentence from his home in New York. 

Cohen told Politico that he plans to detail all of the charges brought against him, claiming that the Justice Department led politicized campaigns to achieve convictions against him. 

When asked by Politico about the book, a Justice Department official reportedly called it “a joke.” 

“The suggestion that President Trump weaponized the Southern District of New York is truly laughable,” the official said. 

Cohen also launched a podcast last month, titled “Mea Culpa,” which its summary states is “shining a light into the dark corners of our current American Apocalypse” and part of Cohen’s “mission to right the wrongs he perpetuated on behalf of his boss.”
