Washington Post counts 30,573 false or misleading claims in four years by Trump

The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that former President Trump made a total of 30,573 false or misleading claims during his time in office.

The Post only counted one inaccurate claim per topic per venue, such as during a particular speech, tweet or interview.

Among the most repeated false claims that Trump spread was that he was responsible for the greatest economy in history. As the Post notes, former Presidents Eisenhower, Johnson and Clinton all were responsible for larger economic growth than Trump when using modern metrics.

The number of falsehoods from Trump reportedly increased exponentially around October with the approach of the presidential election that he eventually lost, though he has yet to acknowledge that the vote was free and fair.

Trump’s baseless claims of voter fraud and a “rigged election” were blamed for ultimately fueling and inciting the deadly riot that tore through the Capitol on Jan. 6. His involvement in inciting the riot led to him becoming the first president in U.S. history to be impeached twice.

Social media companies such as Twitter and Facebook locked or removed Trump’s accounts in the wake of the Capitol assault, citing his potential for causing further violence.

The last recorded misleading claim that the Post reports Trump made was at the Andrews Air Force during his departure ceremony.

“We also got tax cuts, the largest tax cut and reform in the history of our country, by far,” the outgoing president said.

The Post reports that former President Reagan’s tax cuts amounted to significantly larger percentage of the gross domestic product, the equivalent to 2.9 percent versus Trump’s cuts, which ultimately accounted for around 1 percent of the total GDP.
