Piers Morgan says Trump was prank called by someone impersonating him
Piers Morgan told BBC’s Jon Sopel that former President Donald Trump was prank called on Air Force One in October by someone impersonating him.
“They had a conversation with Trump thinking he was talking to me,” Morgan said in an interview on BBC’s Americast podcast. Morgan explained the story after Sopel asked him why Trump called him this past October.
It is “an absolutely hilarious story, where somebody had called [Trump] pretending to be me the day before and got through to him on Air Force One,” Morgan said.
Trump only realized it was a prank call after talking to the real Piers Morgan, Morgan said.
The call would be considered a serious security breach. The Hill has reached out to the Secret Service for comment.
This is not the first time a world leader has been prank called. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, during his time as foreign secretary, were both pranked on the phone.
Morgan and Trump were friends before with Morgan being initially supportive of Trump after his victory in the 2016 presidential election.
However, Morgan thinks Trump’s behavior has been “egregious” since the election.
“I just felt — no, I’m done with you now,” Morgan said in the new interview.
