MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff doesn’t let falling equipment stop his report

MSNBC reporter Jacob Soboroff got a bit of a surprise during a live hit from the southwest border on Thursday. 

As Soboroff began speaking to MSNBC’s Craig Melvin from Otay Mesa, Calif., a light fixture apparently blew over and almost struck him on the head. 

Soboroff reacted quickly, catching the fixture with one hand and joked “Craig, happens sometimes at a breezy location.” 

Still holding the lighting arraignment out of the frame of the live shot, Soboroff continued his report: “I want to say what I think was the most important thing that you heard there,” before relaying what Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of the Department of Homeland Secretary, had told him about the Biden administration’s effort to reunite families separated at the border during the Trump administration.

Soboroff is one of NBC’s leading reporters on immigration issues, reporting extensively on the crisis at the southern border over the past several years and uncovering details of the Trump administration’s handling of unaccompanied minors and families that had crossed into the country.
