Piers Morgan defends queen, takes on Meghan-Harry fans after Oprah interview

“Good Morning Britain” host Piers Morgan is defending Queen Elizabeth and taking on fans of the duke and duchess of Sussex after their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey aired Sunday night.

Morgan took to Twitter to call out the former Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, for their interview, labeling it as “destructive self-serving nonsense” that is “an absolutely disgraceful betrayal of the Queen and the Royal Family.”

“I expect all this vile destructive self-serving nonsense from Meghan Markle — but for Harry to let her take down his family and the Monarchy like this is shameful,” he tweeted in reaction on Sunday night.

In the hours after Harry and Meghan’s interview aired, Morgan called for the former actress to receive an Oscar nomination and later noted he wouldn’t “believe Meghan Markle if she gave me a weather report.”

“Harry wants America and the rest of the world to hate his own family, hate the monarchy and hate his country. I suggest everyone waits for the victims of his wife’s rampage to have their say on her outlandish claims before they do so,” Morgan posted, referring to the accusation that Meghan bullied her staff that surfaced last week.

Morgan also addressed the interview on his show Monday, denouncing the couple for having “trashed” Prince Charles, Prince William, his wife, the former Kate Middleton, and “everything that the queen has worked so hard to maintain.”

On the show, he had a heated discussion with Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, a lawyer and political commentator, who criticized the host’s response to the interview as discriminatory.

“You constantly use your platform as a wealthy, white, privileged man with the power to influence to aggravate and escalate the bigoted, sexist, racist and the misogynist attacks on Meghan Markle, and you do it so shamelessly,” she said.

Morgan responded to her statements by saying, “What a load of race-baiting nonsense,” adding he would not let Mos-Shogbamimu “trash the queen.”

The “Good Morning Britain” host also received backlash for his response on social media, with users condemning his comments on Meghan’s mental health, among other aspects of the interview.

“Lots of people on here want me fired for expressing my opinion on the Pinocchio Princess,” he said. “If you want to join them, there are various petitions still doing the rounds from the last few times you’ve all tried, and failed, to have me fired for saying what I think.”

In their interview, Meghan and Harry made several revelations, including that the royal family discussed their unborn son’s skin color and that her calls for help for suicidal thoughts were not answered.
