Don Lemon on Oprah interview: ‘We have only heard from one side but that … rings very true’
CNN host Don Lemon said on Monday that the account the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared in their interview with Oprah Winfrey regarding their treatment by the royal family “ring very true.”
“People say we haven’t heard from the other side. What’s the other side going to say?” Lemon asked during an appearance on the network on Monday. “They’re going to say, ‘Of course we’re not racist,’ or whatever.”
Lemon also said the royal family has made its position clear by refusing to stand up for Prince Harry because he is “married to a Black woman, had a Black child.”
“So, listen, we have only heard from one side,” Lemon added, “but that one side at this point rings very true.”
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, made several accusations against the royal family while speaking to Winfrey in a lengthy interview that drew 17 million viewers for CBS on Sunday evening.
The former Meghan Markle said that while she was pregnant with her son, Archie, members of the royal family discussed “how dark his skin might be.” She added that the royal family didn’t provide any help after she complained to them of having mental health issues.
So far, the royal family has remained silent about the interview.
Lemon also spoke out about the racism discussed during Oprah’s interview on his own show Monday evening.
“Racism is racism. Doesn’t matter whether you live in a shack or a palace.”
