Fox News hires Pompeo as contributor
Fox News Media has hired former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as a contributor, the company announced Thursday.
It said Pompeo would provide commentary on Fox News and Fox Business Network for both daytime and prime-time shows. His first on-air appearance as a contributor will be Friday on “Fox & Friends.”
The post could benefit Pompeo by connecting the former Trump administration Cabinet member to Fox’s audience. Pompeo is seen by many as a potential presidential candidate in 2024.
However, it’s likely Fox will end this current relationship with Pompeo if he does decide to run. The network terminated its contributor agreement with former Trump press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders after she announced she was running for governor of Arkansas.
In 2011, Fox suspended Newt Gingrich as he considered a run for president. Later, in 2016, the cable network suspended Gingrich again, eight months after hiring him back as a contributor, as speculation grew that he might be named former President Trump’s VP candidate.
“As a now former diplomat and member of Congress, and in this new role at FOX News Media, I intend to give viewers a candid, no-nonsense look at geopolitics, international relations and the America First policies that helped chart the course for unprecedented American prosperity and security,” Pompeo said in the statement.
Pompeo, who served as former President Trump’s secretary of State from 2018 to 2021 and is also a former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, has appeared on Fox New shows before as a guest.
Fox has recently hired other former Trump insiders as contributors including former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany and Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump.
