PBS White House reporter Yamiche Alcindor to moderate ‘Washington Week’

PBS White House reporter Yamiche Alcindor has been named moderator of the network’s show “Washington Week,” according to an announcement Tuesday from WETA, the PBS affiliate station that produces the show.

Alcindor will start in the role on Friday and will also file periodic digital reports for the show, which is broadcast live. In addition, she’ll keep her position as “PBS NewsHour’s” White House correspondent and will continue as a contributor to NBC News and MSNBC.

Alcindor replaces the former host and managing editor of “Washington Week,” Robert Costa, who left the show in January to write a book with The Washington Post’s Bob Woodward about the end of Donald Trump’s presidency. Alcindor, who already served as a panelist on the show, has filled in as guest moderator occasionally since Costa left.

Neither Alcindor nor PBS immediately responded to requests for comment from The Hill.

Alcindor, who has reported on the White House for the network since 2018, is the ninth host of the show. She is also the second Black woman to assume the role following Gwen Ifill, who was moderator from 1999 until her death in 2016.

Before “PBS NewsHour,” Alcindor worked for The New York Times reporting on the presidential campaigns of Trump and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). She was also a moderator for the sixth Democratic primary debate during the 2020 election cycle.

As “PBS NewsHour’s” White House reporter Alcindor sometimes clashed with Trump, who critiqued her questions during press briefings, including the president telling her to “be nice” when discussing the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
