NBC’s Lester Holt to be inducted into NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame

NBC anchor Lester Holt is being inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

NAB announced Tuesday that Holt, who anchors “NBC Nightly News,” will be honored in October during the group’s annual convention in Las Vegas.

Holt took over NBC’s evening broadcast in 2015 from Brian Williams, who was put on leave after an internal review found he had “made a number of inaccurate statements about his own role and experiences covering events in the field.” Williams later moved to an anchor role at MSNBC.

Before becoming host of “NBC Nightly News” on weeknights, Holt had anchored the weekend version of the show for eight years and co-anchored “Weekend TODAY” for 12 years. He joined NBC in 2000.

Holt has also been principal anchor at “Dateline NBC” since September 2011.

In March, Holt raised eyebrows in the media world when he told an audience he thought that “it’s become clearer that fairness is overrated,” as he accepted the Edward R. Murrow Award for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism.

“Before you run off and tweet that headline, let me explain a bit. The idea that we should always give two sides equal weight and merit does not reflect the world we find ourselves in,” he added.

NAB began honoring television executives, shows, organizations and individual broadcasters in 1988. The group’s hall of fame includes Edward Murrow, Larry King, Charles Osgood, “The Today Show,” “60 Minutes,” “Meet the Press” and Ted Koppel.
