Murdoch calls on Trump to move on: ‘The past is the past’
News Corp Executive Chairman Rupert Murdoch said former President Trump is preventing conservatives from moving the nation’s political debate forward with a focus “on the past.”
“The current American political debate is profound, whether about education or welfare or economic opportunity,” Murdoch said in remarks at an annual meeting of News Corp stockholders obtained by The Hill.
“It is crucial that conservatives play an active, forceful role in that debate, but that will not happen if President Trump stays focused on the past,” Murdoch said.
“The past is the past, and the country is now in a contest to define the future,” he added.
Trump is mostly focused on the last year, specifically his loss in the 2020 presidential race. The former president on a near-daily basis has made false allegations about his defeat, which he has repeatedly blamed on massive voter fraud.
No substantive evidence of widespread fraud has been documented, and GOP officials in key states have said their elections were fairly run and counted.
