Sen. Schumer gets new book deal

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, announced yesterday that he had reached a deal to write a book about how Democrats can win back middle-class voters.

Schumer’s book, The 50 Percent Solution: Winning Back the Middle Class One Family at a Time, will be published by Rodale Books in early 2007. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, according to a statement issued by Rodale.

“America’s middle class is up for grabs to the political party that articulates a platform that confronts the new challenges they are facing in the ‘technology era’ we’re living in and this book will be a blueprint for the Democrats to do so. It’s a pragmatic plan for addressing the things average people care about in a way that will have meaningful impact on their daily lives,” Schumer said.

His counterpart at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), also is publishing a book on how Democrats can regain political momentum.
