Buyer to investigate VA data breach
Records of almost 27 million veterans were stolen recently from a Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) employee who took the data home, unauthorized, to work on a project, it was announced yesterday.
Congress is vowing to investigate and prevent future breaches.
“The committee will examine this incident in the context of previous data compromises, to ensure that veterans’ information is safeguarded,” said Rep. Steve Buyer (R-Ind.), chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee.
Sen, John Kerry (D-Mass.), a Vietnam veteran, blasted the VA, saying, “There’s no more personal and private information than a veteran’s medical information.”
