Lawmakers urge Bush to meet with oil execs

Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) and 12 other House Republicans sent a letter to President Bush yesterday urging him to hold an “emergency high-level” meeting between administration officials and oil executives to determine ways to reduce gasoline prices.

“We … urge you to convene an emergency high-level summit with American oil companies to discuss actions that can be taken today, and to remind them of their responsibility to invest recent record profits in expanding supplies, building new and expanded pipelines and refining capacity…”

It was signed by Reps. Gresham Barrett (S.C.), Dan Burton (Ind.), Mario Diaz-Balart (Fla.), Trent Franks (Ariz.), Phil Gingrey (Ga.), Kay Granger (Texas), Bob Inglis (S.C.), Michael McCaul (Texas), Jerry Moran (Kan.), Steve Pearce (N.M.), George Radanovich (Calif.) and Lamar Smith (Texas), as well as Kingston.

The White House did not have an immediate comment.
