Kean arrives late for his own fundraiser

Republican New Jersey Senate candidate Tom Kean Jr. was late to his own fundraiser, where Vice President Cheney spoke Monday, according to the Bergen Record.

Kean finally appeared a few minutes after Cheney had left the stage, claiming he was held up by state legislative business and heavy traffic.

Kean, whose father was a two-term governor of New Jersey and served as co-chairman of the Sept. 11 commission, is running against Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), a seven-term member of the House who was appointed to fill the seat that Gov. Jon Corzine (D-N.J.) resigned from in the upper chamber.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) spoke at a fundraiser for Kean three weeks ago. Others who were scheduled to help raise money this week for Kean include Senate Majority Whip Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Menendez has a slight lead over Kean in recent polls.
