DSCC outpaces NRSC in online fundraising this year

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee raised more than three times as much money online than its GOP counterpart did for the first two months of the year.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee raised more than three times as much money online than its GOP counterpart did for the first two months of the year.

The DSCC generated more than $250,000 in contributions through its e-mail and Web campaigns since the beginning of the year, the group said.

According to an e-mail sent to supporters on Thursday, the DSCC raked in more than $175,000 in February, surpassing a $150,000 target for the month. A DSCC spokesman said that the committee raised more than $75,000 on the Internet in January.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee, on the other hand, has not fared as well so far this year.

The NRSC exceeded a $75,000 goal for January and February combined by about $1,000, but only after a last-minute e-mail pitch on Tuesday, when the NRSC was $8,750 away from its target.

An NRSC spokesman said that more than half of the donations came in February. “We’ve been trending upward,” he said.

Overall, the GOP committee performed better in January but it still trails in cash-on-hand, according to the most recent filings with the Federal Election Commission.
The NRSC raised $4.3 million that month, compared to $2.1 million for the DSCC. The Democrats, however, had $25.5 million in the bank compared to the Republicans’ $11.5 million.
