First an Oscar, then a resolution

Former Vice President Al Gore, who picked up an Oscar for his documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” may be honored on the House floor later this month.

Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) has introduced a measure to recognize Gore’s work on global warming and congratulate him on winning an Academy Award. The measure also honors director David Guggenheim and producers Lawrence Bender and Laurie David, the wife of comedian Larry David.

In a “Dear Colleague” letter, Engel said he would like the measure, H.R. 197, to reach the House floor before Gore testifies before the House Energy and Commerce Committee on March 21.

The bill has been referred to the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. So far, the measure has 21 cosponsors. Engel wants 29 more by week’s end.
