The Week Ahead: Time to raise cash
President Obama will be on a five-state, three-day
fundraising spree before leaving on a 10-day vacation.
Washington state holds its primaries on Tuesday.
And are you ready for some football? The Redskins host their
annual kickoff lunch on Friday.
{mosads}Monday, Aug. 16
— Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton speaks at Johns
Hopkins’ School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) about “The Global
Health Initiative: The Next Phase of American Leadership in Health Around the
World.” The event begins at 11:30 a.m., 1740 Massachusetts Ave. NW.
— Obama will be in Los Angeles for a Democratic
Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) fundraiser. He’ll be joined by Speaker
Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.).
— The president will stop in Milwaukee to headline a
fundraiser for Mayor and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett and
tour nearby ZBB Energy Corp.
— Former President Clinton will be in Florida to
campaign for Senate candidate Kendrick Meek. The two are scheduled to make
stops in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Meek has a tough
Democratic primary against self-funding billionaire Jeff Greene. Meek has long
ties to the Clintons. He endorsed Hillary Clinton in the 2008 presidential
race.
Tuesday, Aug. 17
— Obama will be in Washington state, where he’ll headline a
couple of fundraisers for Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.).
— Also in Washington, Republicans will choose their
candidate to face Murray. Former gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi is the
favorite, but he’s being challenged by Tea Party favorite and former NFL player
Clint Didier, who’s been endorsed by Sarah Palin.
— EMILY’s List holds a campaign event at the National Press
Club at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 18
— The president will be in Ohio and Florida for
fundraisers. In Columbus, Obama will host a fundraiser for Democratic Gov. Ted
Strickland. He then heads to Miami for a Florida Democratic Party fundraiser,
where Meek is scheduled to appear.
Thursday, Aug. 19
— The Obamas head to Martha’s Vineyard for a 10-day
vacation.
— New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, the brother of Sen.
Mary Landrieu (D-La.), addresses a National Press Club lunch about how the city
is faring five years after Hurricane Katrina. His speech begins at 1 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 20
— The Redskins hold their 49th Annual Welcome Back Luncheon
to mark the start of the football season. The invitation-only event takes place
at 11 a.m. at the Ritz Carlton-Tysons Corner, 1700 Tysons Blvd., McLean.
