MoveOn goes after Hoyer, Levin

MoveOn.org, the Web-based, liberal grassroots group, is going after two Democratic leaders for failing to support an accelerated troop withdrawal from Iraq.

The group is targeting House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) in ads that will run in their home states through May 21.

{mosads}The ads feature “voters” that express their disappointment with the lawmakers.

“We were so proud when he was made majority leader of the House of Representatives,” says the ad about Hoyer. “But that pride has turned into disappointment. Because last week, Steny Hoyer was one of just a few Democrats to vote against the McGovern bill, a real plan for withdrawing from Iraq.”

The Levin ad features similar language.

“The majority of Sen. Levin’s and Rep. Hoyer’s constituents, along with a majority of the country, and a majority of Democrats in Congress want a quick and responsible end to the occupation in Iraq,” said Eli Pariser, the executive director of MoveOn.org Political Action.

Added Move On Campaigner Nita Chaudhary: “The Democratic leadership is pushing hard to bring our troops home. Hoyer and Levin should be supporting them, not undermining them.”
