Sunday shows: Campaign leaders dig in
Some
of the election’s key figures will appear on different networks to
discuss their efforts to either elect Republicans or retain Democratic
majorities in the House and Senate.
Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele will
sit down for NBC’s “Meet the Press,” while his Democratic counterpart,
Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Tim Kaine, will discuss
his party’s efforts on ABC’s “This Week.”
{mosads}Focusing more specifically on the House, Democratic Congressional
Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.) will explain
on CBS’ “Face the Nation” how he plans to stave off enough losses for his party in the House to
allow Democrats to keep a majority. Also appearing will be Republican strategist Karl Rove.
The appearances will set the stage for the final eight days of the
campaign, when Democrats and Republicans will both fan out across the
country to campaign in the pivotal contests.
One of those
contests Republicans are hoping to win is in Florida, which features a
highly-watched, three-way Senate race between GOP candidate Marco
Rubio, Republican-turned-independent Gov. Charlie Crist, and Democratic
Rep. Kendrick Meek.
Polls show Rubio slightly ahead in the race, and the trio will face
off on CNN’s “State of the Union,” where Crist and Meek will both look
to make up ground on Rubio, the highly-touted newcomer on the national
stage.
Two other candidates in tight
Senate races will also speak out on “Fox News Sunday.” Former GOP
congressman and Club for Growth President Pat Toomey will talk about
his campaign against Rep. Joe Sestak (D) in the Pennsylvania Senate
race, and West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin (D) will talk about his
campaign against Republican John Raese.
