Sunday shows: All bets are on

In the final weekend before the midterm elections, several key lawmakers and party leaders will discuss their predictions for Tuesday’s outcome as Republicans try to capture the majority and Democrats attempt to hold onto their leadership positions.

CNN’s “State of the Union” will host Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele and Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who will each discuss the future of their parties heading into the election.

{mosads}Also appearing will be former senator and presidential candidate Bob Kerrey (D-Neb.) and CNN political contributor Bill Bennett.

Durbin could be tapped to lead Democrats if party members call for a change after the election.

Steele has spent the past six weeks on a U.S. tour to get out the Republican vote.

Some estimates show Republicans gaining eight seats in the Senate, which would move the chamber close to even, around 51-49, if those predictions pan out on Tuesday.

In a recent interview, Steele called the midterm campaign “the most organic political experience that I have witnessed in my 35 years.”

“Washington had better be ready for the storm that is about to hit.”

NBC’s “Meet the Press” features a discussion between two key party leaders. Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine, former Virginia governor, and Republican Governors Association Chairman Gov. Haley Barbour (Miss.) will discuss what’s at stake in the midterm elections.

ABC’s “This Week” with focus on the Senate elections with National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) appearing.

Cornyn and Menendez will discuss possible outcomes of the election and who is paying for the campaigns.

Menendez said he is expecting Democrats to remain in the majority and he predicted an upset win in the Illinois race for President Obama’s former seat and even a Democratic victory in Alaska, where incumbent Republican Lisa Murkowski is running as a write-in after losing her primary.

He dismissed the prediction that Republicans will narrow the majority by eight seats during an interview on Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital with Al Hunt,” airing this weekend.

On “Fox News Sunday,” Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) will discuss where Democrats stand days before the midterms. Sarah Palin also will appear.

CBS’ “Face the Nation” will hold an election discussion with Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-Minn.), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D).
