McCarthy to fill vacant Financial Services panel seat

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will fill the seat on the Financial Services Committee vacated by the death of Rep. Paul Gillmor (R-Ohio), according to a GOP leadership aide.

{mosads}Gillmor, 68, was found dead by his staff early last month in his Arlington, Va., home after apparently falling down the stairs.

Since McCarthy was elected last year to replace former Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas (R-Calif.), he has risen quickly through the Republican ranks. In addition to Financial Services, McCarthy is a member of the Republican Steering Committee and was appointed to serve as a member of the House Administration Committee. He will give up his seats on the Natural Resources Committee and the Agriculture Committee for the new post.
