Charlie Wilson in stable condition after surgery
Rep. Charlie Wilson (D-Ohio) is in stable condition and recovering after having emergency colon surgery Thursday morning, his office said.
{mosads}Following a routine colonoscopy in his home state earlier this week, Wilson returned to Washington and reported to the Attending Physician of the United States Congress after not feeling well. Both went to the George Washington University Hospital where doctors determined that the lawmaker sustained a perforation of the colon and needed surgery.
“The surgery was successful and we did what we needed to safely treat his condition,” said Farshid Araghizadeh, M.D., associate professor of surgery and a colorectal surgeon at the George Washington University Hospital. “Congressman Wilson remains in the Intensive Care Unit in stable condition. Considering his initial presentation his progress is very encouraging.”
Wilson’s office said the lawmaker is expected to remain in the hospital for about a week and then rest at home. The Ohio Democrat hopes to return to a light congressional schedule “within a few weeks,” his office said.
