Dems launch new SCHIP radio ads

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is launching a new batch of radio ads singling out House Republicans for their votes on the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).

{mosads}The new ads, announced Monday, will run for a week in the districts of Reps. Richard Baker (La.), Steve Chabot (Ohio), Kenny Hulshof (Mo.), Ric Keller (Fla.), Joe Knollenberg (Mich.), Peter Roskam (Ill.) and John Shadegg (Ariz.). The DCCC declined to say how big the buy was.

The Chabot ad focuses on President Bush’s visit to the district on Monday, casting it as payback for Chabot’s vote to uphold his veto of the legislation. The others say the members get healthcare at taxpayer expense but won’t give it to children.

“Across the country, Republicans are feeling the heat for supporting President Bush instead of the healthcare for America’s kids,” said DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.).

A spokeswoman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, Julie Shutley, said the Democrats’ SCHIP tactics haven’t been working and won’t this time either.

“You’d think if the Democrats had enough time to dream up a fourth round of partisan attack ads, they would have enough time to come to the table and work out a compromise agreement in which both Democrats and Republicans could be proud,” Shutley said.
