Hoyer says stimulus could be done in a month
The man in charge of running the House floor said Wednesday that Congress could pass a stimulus package to spur the slowing economy within a month.
{mosads}“I believe it can be done in 30 days,” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told reporters. “Whether it will be done in 30 days, I can’t say.”
Hoyer also said he is opposed to using the stimulus to extend President Bush’s tax cuts and said there is flexibility under House rules in “paying for” stimulus relief.
Hoyer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) are to meet with Republican Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) and Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) in a rare bipartisan summit today on the stimulus.
