McConnell opponent goes on the air
Bruce Lunsford, the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination to challenge Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, went on the air with his first ad Friday.
{mosads}Lunsford's ad, entitled “Bottom Line,” emphasizes the Democratic 2008 campaign theme of change.
“The title of this first campaign commercial says it all — bottom line. The bottom line for Kentucky families is that we need to change the way we do business in Washington,” Lunsford said in a statement.
“My experiences growing up on our Northern Kentucky farm taught me the common sense values that Kentucky families share with one another. Right now, families and small businesses are worried about their own bottom lines,” he added. “They need change. In order to create that kind of change, we need a senator who can use those values to improve the lives of Kentuckians. I am ready to be that senator.”
Lunsford still faces a primary with several Democrats, but he is the chosen candidate of Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Polls show him with a strong lead over his Democratic challengers, but McConnell continues to enjoy a significant lead over all the Democratic challengers.
