Kennedy ‘recuperating well’
Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) is “recuperating well” and continuing to be active at the Duke University hospital where he had brain surgery Monday, his office said.
{mosads}Kennedy, 76, had a “restful night’s sleep,” is “experiencing no complications” and has been "walking the hallways, spending time with family and actively keeping up with the news of the day,” the office said in a statement. Kennedy’s office noted that the announcement would be the last until the senator leaves for Boston, where he is expected to undergo radiation and chemotherapy in about a week at Massachusetts General Hospital.
The second-longest serving senator in the chamber, Kennedy was diagnosed with a brain tumor last month after being hospitalized following a seizure. Doctors said the tumor was a malignant glioma. Duke neurosurgeon Dr. Allan Friedman operated on Kennedy for three and a half hours on Monday and called the surgery “successful.”
