CBC unanimously backs Burris

The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) on Wednesday unanimously
voted to support the Senate bid of former Illinois attorney general Roland
Burris.

{mosads}CBC Chairwoman Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) said the caucus
plans to send a letter of support for Burris to Senate leaders, who initially
blocked Burris because he was appointed by disgraced Illinois Gov. Rod
Blagojevich (D). Blagojevich was arrested last month for allegedly seeking to
auction off President-elect Obama’s Senate seat and Democratic leaders have
argued that this taints the governor’s pick.

The CBC includes 41 House Democrats, and Burris would be
the only senator if he joins the group.
