The Hill receives nine journalism awards

The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) presented The Hill newspaper with nine journalism awards at the National Press Club on Tuesday night.

The Hill’s Roxana Tiron received first place in the weekly category on spot news for her article on the Pentagon’s stop-loss policies. In the business/financial category, Kevin Bogardus and Jeffrey Young won first place for their article, “Even John Q. Public can hire K Street — if he has the cash.”

Bogardus received the first-place award in the weekly feature category for his story on private investigators in the nation’s capital and also nabbed third in the business category for his article on so-called vulture funds.

Young placed second in the business category with his “Lights, camera, PhRMA” article.

The Hill Managing Editor Bob Cusack received second place in the general news category for his article titled, “Democrats say McCain nearly abandoned GOP.”

Jim Snyder, business and lobbying editor of The Hill, was awarded third place for “K Street Week” in the weekly column category.

Manu Raju won third place in spot news for “Leadership flight” and Helen Fessenden, who is now with Congress Daily, was awarded third place for her article titled, “Only few saw the key FISA court rulings.”

In 2007, The Hill received six SPJ awards.
