House GOP announces new fundraising numbers for battleground-district races
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) on Tuesday announced they had raised a total of $1 million for battleground races, according to GOP aides who attended a meeting of the Republican Conference at the Capitol Hill Club.
National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Cole (Okla.) raised $250,000 toward the final fundraising push of the cycle, half of his goal of $500,000 for the cycle. Rep. Geoff Davis (R-Ky.), who fended off a challenge by former Rep. Ken Lucas (D) in 2006, gave $200,000. Chief Deputy Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) pledged to donate $500,000.
{mosads}But the numbers pale in comparison to what some Democrats have been raking in, including Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Red to Blue Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.), who has steered $4.1 million toward her program. She said Red to Blue has secured nearly $14 million in member contributions.
Some vulnerable Republicans, though, are reporting impressive fundraising numbers for the second quarter.
“I think we are around $1.4 million cash on hand,” targeted Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio) said. “We have been very pleased with ourselves and our efforts.”
And the GOP initiative called the Regain Our Majority Program (ROMP) is starting to get rolling.
Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) is one of the newest members of the ROMP program and will benefit from a fundraiser held Wednesday and hosted by Blunt and Cantor.
