Edwards admits affair
Former presidential candidate and ex-Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) admitted to ABC News that he had an extramarital affair, but he denied that he is the father of a "love child" as a result.
The news comes less than three weeks before the Democratic National Convention.
{mosads}Edwards has long denied any affair with a filmmaker who produced some of his campaign commercials, but earlier this month the National Enquirer reported that Edwards had sneaked into a Los Angeles hotel late at night to meet his mistress.
In an interview with ABC's "Nightline" scheduled to air Friday night, Edwards said he did have an affair with Rielle Hunter, but he is not the father of her baby. He also confirmed the Enquirer’s report that he met with Hunter in a Beverly Hills hotel last month.
The former senator and 2004 vice presidential candidate has said repeatedly that he did not have an affair, and his former campaign aide, Andrew Young, has said that he is the father of the child.
In the middle of the campaign last year, Edwards and his wife Elizabeth shook the Democratic race by announcing that Elizabeth Edwards's cancer had returned and that it is an incurable form.
