Pelosi says debate should go forward

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is joining the Democratic chorus that says the Friday night presidential debate should go on, despite Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) decision to suspend his campaign.

{mosads}“I believe this debate must take place,” Pelosi (D-Calif.) stated.

The Speaker was less critical of McCain’s decision to come back to the Capitol amid negotiations on a $700 billion bailout of Wall Street than Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who said: “We need leadership, not a campaign photo-op.”

Pelosi, when asked about McCain’s decision, said, “The American people expect the president to be able to work and lead.”
