Stevens case still open, but hurdles remain

Sen. Ted Stevens’s (R-Alaska) criminal trial is hanging by a thread Thursday after a federal judge decided to keep the case open despite a violation by the government in turning over critical evidence to the defense.

Judge Emmet G. Sullivan ordered all relevant evidence and unedited FBI interviews to be turned over to the government. The Justice Department acknowledged a violation, saying it had informed the department's Office of Professional Responsibility about the issue.
