Trial postponed for man armed with AK-47
The trial of the man police arrested for allegedly carrying a dangerous weapon several blocks from the Capitol was postponed on Friday.
Judge Gregory Jackson postponed the trial date for Christopher Timmons, 27, until further notice. Timmons, whose trial was originally supposed to begin on Dec. 1, is scheduled for another status hearing on Dec. 3.
{mosads}U.S. Capitol Police arrested Timmons in September for allegedly carrying an AK-47 assault rifle, an improvised grenade, ammunition and several knives while driving in his vehicle at 2nd Street SE and Independence Avenue SE.
Several people who would only identify themselves as close friends and family of the Orange County, Va., resident were in court Friday to support Timmons, who wore an orange jumpsuit, a full beard and hair that fell below his shoulders.
According to court documents, the Capitol Police officer saw a rifle case inside the vehicle and asked Timmons if he had a rifle with him. Timmons said that he did and that he had it to help the police “with manpower.”
After being taken into custody, Timmons reportedly said that he had come to Washington to find books about a secret society.
