Mukasey ‘fine,’ will return to work Friday
Attorney General Michael Mukasey said he feels fine and plans to return to work Friday afternoon after collapsing Thursday night during a speech to the conservative Federalist Society.
Mukasey issued a memo to all Department of Justice colleagues letting them know that he feels fine after undergoing a battery of tests a George Washington University that “came back with good results.” He did not elaborate about what the doctors determined, if anything, about the cause of the collapse.
{mosads}“As you may have heard, I collapsed briefly last night at the conclusion of a speech,” he wrote in the brief memo. “All tests at the hospital have come back with good results and I feel fine. Accordingly, I plan to report to the department this afternoon and continue doing the work I swore to do last November and which it has been an honor to do with you ever since.”
He also thanked his colleagues for “your good wishes and your good work.”
“It remains an honor to serve you,” he concluded.
It remains unclear what caused Mukasey, 67, to collapse at the annual black-tie dinner of the prominent right-leaning legal group at the Marriott Wardman Park hotel. According to a report in The Washington Post, it took paramedics nearly 15 minutes to arrive before they rushed Mukasey to George Washington University Hospital. Authorities conducted hazardous-materials tests for potential dangers and found no sign of harmful chemicals at the hotel.
