Schakowsky: Ill. Gov.’s grip on ‘political reality’ slim
Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) said Illinois Gov. Rod
Blagojevich (D) is unfit to remain in his post and noted it’s “hard to
understand” why he is not resigning.
{mosads}“The charges that were leveled against him are so
fantastical, where he was imagining himself being appointed secretary of Health
and Human Services or an ambassadorship,” Schakowsky said Monday on CBS’s
“Early Show.” “And so, you know, it seems like the grip on reality — political
reality, anyway — is pretty slim.”
Schakowsky, who was said to be a possible replacement for
President-elect Obama in the Senate, called for Blagojevich to be impeached after
he was charged with auctioning off the seat to the highest bidder.
“This is about the governor being unable to govern right
now,” she stated, adding: “Right now, our state is without the leadership that
we need.”
Schakowsky also said that she did not believe that she
was on Blagojevich’s short list of candidates because a conversation the two
had had about the position did not go into what she could do for the governor
if selected.
