Bush praises military in penultimate radio address

In his penultimate radio address, President Bush praised
the military and touted his legacy of spreading freedom and democracy.

“America’s armed forces have liberated more than 50 million
people around the world – and made our nation safer,” said Bush in the radio
address. “They have taken the fight to the terrorists abroad so that we have
not had to face them here at home.”

{mosads}Since he took office in 2001, Bush launched wars in
Afghanistan and Iraq. More than 4,800 members of the U.S. military and
civilians involved in the two wars were killed.

In the dawn of his presidency Bush and his administration
officials have stressed the fact that there have not been any terrorist attacks
in the United States after Sept. 11, 2001. The Bush administration has chalked
up the success to the military campaigns it launched in Iraq and Afghanistan as
well as its homeland security measures.

“The world has seen something that almost no one thought
possible: More than seven years after September the 11th, there has not been
another terrorist attack on American soil,” Bush said.

Bush also praised law enforcement officials, intelligence
analysts and homeland security agents for “working tirelessly to ensure our safety.”

“These Americans answer the call to defend freedom when
it is under attack,” he said. “I am proud to have served as their
Commander-in-Chief.”
