Bush thanks American people in last radio address

President Bush on Saturday completed a campaign in which
he publicly reflected on his two terms in office by thanking the American
people in his last radio address.

Bush has granted several interviews with print and
broadcast media outlets in which he looked back on his presidency, held a news
conference and a televised prime time address to the nation.

{mosads}On Saturday, in what also could be seen as a message to
the incoming administration, Bush focused on the threat of terrorism and some
pitfalls he believes the country should avoid.

“While our nation is safer than it was seven years ago,
the gravest threat to our people remains another terrorist attack. Our
enemies are patient, and determined to strike again,” Bush, who has expressed great
pride in his ability to have protected the U.S. from a terrorist attack since
Sept. 11, 2001, said. “America did nothing to seek or deserve this
conflict. But we have been given solemn responsibilities, and we must meet
them. We must resist complacency. We must keep our resolve. And
we must never let down our guard.”

Bush also warned against isolationism and stressed that
the country must maintain its “moral clarity.”

“Murdering the innocent to advance an ideology is wrong
every time, everywhere. Freeing people from oppression and despair is
eternally right,” he stated. “This nation must continue to speak out for
justice and truth. We must always be willing to act in their defense – and
to advance the cause of peace.”

Lastly he noted that on Tuesday he and wife Laura would “join
all Americans in offering our best wishes to President Obama, his wife
Michelle, and their two beautiful girls.”
