Americas, Iraq to show up on Sunday
As President Obama prepares for his first international summit with leaders from the Americas, international issues will again play a starring role on Sunday’s talk shows.
Arturo Sarukhan, Mexico’s ambassador to the United States, will sit down with CBS’s Bob Scheiffer on “Face the Nation” as violence persists along the U.S.-Mexican border.
{mosads}Drug cartel-fueled gang activity is at an “intolerable” level, according to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Clinton made the remarks at a university during her inaugural trip to Mexico in late March. The violence prompted the Bureau of Land Management to issue a warning Thursday about a California park that straddles the border.
Obama will travel to Mexico before attending an Americas summit in Trinidad and Tobago this week.
Meanwhile, following President Obama’s surprise visit to Iraq, Gen. Raymond Odierno will talk to John King on CNN’s “State of the Union.” This week, Odierno warned the U.S. might miss a June 30 deadline for withdrawal from two major cities thanks to increased violence.
Mowaffak al-Rubaie, Iraq’s National Security Director, will also stop by CNN.
Finally, on the holiday weekend, Fox News Sunday will feature Archbishop Donald Wuerl, the leader of Washington, D.C.’s Catholic archdiocese. Wuerl became archbishop in 2006, following the retirement of Theodore McCarrick.
“This Week” will host Rick Warren, the California megachurch pastor and best-selling author who angered some gay rights proponents when he delivered the invocation at President Obama’s inauguration.
