Berlin attack suspect was under surveillance for months

The suspect in Berlin’s Christmas market attack was under covert surveillance for several months this year, the Associated Press reports

Prosecutors in Berlin told the AP Wednesday that they began investigating suspect Anis Amri on March 14 following a tip from federal security agencies.

The tip warned that Amri might be planning a break-in to finance the purchase of automatic weapons to use in an attack, according to the AP.

{mosads}Authorities stopped observing Amri in October.

Amri is suspected of driving a truck into a crowd outside a Christmas market in Berlin Monday. The attack left 12 dead and dozens more injured.

German authorities are offering a reward of up to $105,000 for his arrest.

Prosecutors warned Amri could be “dangerous and armed,” according to the AP.

Amri reportedly has Tunisian citizenship, and was born in the town of Ghaza. According to the AP, German authorities rejected his asylum request in July.
