The Security Council will vote on the resolution, drafted by Egypt, on Thursday.
According to the Times of Israel, the resolution demands that “Israel immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem,” because they are a “flagrant violation” of international law.
{mosads}It stresses that “the cessation of all Israeli settlement activities is essential for salvaging the two-state solution,” calling the activities “dangerously imperiling” and saying they threaten the viability of any future Palestinian state in the West Bank.
It also calls for “affirmative steps to be taken immediately to reverse the negative trends on the ground.”
The U.S. vetoed a similar resolution in 2011.
