Scarborough to media: Stop ‘hyperventilating’ about Trump

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough says the media should stop worrying about President-elect Donald Trump and treat his incoming administration with more objectivity.

“The groupthink that has overtaken national media outlets is embarrassing,” Scarborough wrote in a Washington Post op-ed Tuesday. “There is an intellectual climate so suffocating that even stating the truth, or daring to line up a presidential interview, makes one be seen as a member of a suspect class.”

“Reporters don’t have to like Trump,” the co-host of “Morning Joe” added. “But they do need to stop hyperventilating long enough to approach the next four years with a balanced perspective and at least start pretending to once again be objective.”

{mosads}Scarborough, who was accused of being too chummy with Trump during the campaign, also defended attending the president-elect’s New Year’s Eve party at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., last weekend.

“Nobody seemed to care that Mika and I met privately with [President] Barack Obama for over an hour in the White House,” he said of fellow co-host Mika Brzezinski. “Nor did they raise an eyebrow when it became common knowledge that we were close friends with the president’s closest adviser, Valerie Jarrett.”

Scarborough on Sunday slammed a former CBS reporter for saying the MSNBC host “partied” with Trump the night before. He lashed out at Sopan Deb on Twitter, adding he was merely seeking an interview with Trump ahead of the president-elect’s celebration.

“You’re very good at pushing fake news,” Scarborough tweeted. “You should write for CNN. Apparently making up facts is fine if you’re writing about us.”
