ACLU: No, Bannon, the media should not ‘keep its mouth shut’
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is warning President Trump’s administration that it will “see them in court” if it tries to silence the media.
No, Stephen Bannon, the media should not “keep its mouth shut” and if the Trump administration tries, we’ll see them in court. https://t.co/oW1fAavsoh

Trump chief strategist Stephen Bannon ripped the press in an interview published Thursday with The New York Times, calling it the “opposition party.”
“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile,” Bannon said in the interview.
Bannon said the media does not understand how Trump won the election.
{mosads}“I want you to quote this,” Bannon told the Times. “The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”
The ACLU has previously vowed to fight against Trump, including threatening to take him to court.
One day after the presidential election, the organization insisted it would use its “full firepower” to fight back against him if he followed through on controversial campaign promises, including on immigration and torture.
“These proposals are not simply un-American and wrong-headed, they are unlawful and unconstitutional,” ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero said in a statement on Nov. 9.
“They violate the First, Fourth, Fifth, Eight and Fourteenth Amendments. If you do not reverse course and instead endeavor to make these campaign promises a reality, you will have to contend with the full firepower of the ACLU at every step.”
Should President-elect Donald Trump attempt to implement his unconstitutional campaign promises, we’ll see him in court.
